Louise Bougeois

I was sad to learn that a great sculptor Louise Bourgeois died last weekend of a heart attack. She was 98. We saw her exhibition at the Tate Modern in 2008. Her spider seen in the picture here was amazing and this is the piece she is most famous for creating.
She only received success in her 60's and in 1982 New York's Museum of Art mounted an exhibition of her work which transformed her career. An eccentric woman she made sculptures in all kinds of media and prints and drawings. Adrian Searle the art critic for the Guardian cites her as saying recently "My memories are moth eaten". This was written next to a beautiful abstract drawing and really is a beautiful way of describing what little she did remember of her past.
