New Designers
I had a great trip to London last week where I visited the New Designers Show which was showcasing the textile, ceramics and jewellery courses.
I have not attended this for quite a few years and it was really interesting to see what the graduates are being inspired by and who the good colleges are.
Nature played an important part in many people's designs in the patterning and colour palette, with insects being featured alot and block printed foliage in repeat, with patterns reminiscent of William Morris, vintage inspired prints, folk inspired digital prints like on Poppy Tinkler- Hunt's lovely prints below.
Leeds University's Textile Collections was by far the most impressive and commercial as a collection. I was sad to see my old college Manchester not there- it is such an important platform to get picked up by the press or retailers.
Tony Giles had been inspired by old wallpaper and put together some interesting designs from them.
