The Olympic Cauldron

I have been very quiet on the blog for a while. I find it hard to find the time to writing the posts even though I collect stories and images that I would like to share with you. I have quite a back log now!

I had to share the Olympic games opening ceremony with you however as I found it very inspirational so hopefully my blogging can start again now!
Well done Danny Boyle who has managed to put together a real celebration of Britain, a very quirky inventive set rather than a cheesy affair that so often happens, featuring lots of tired old "has been" bands.
I loved the Industrialisation scene and the Olympic rings, the Giant Harry Potter puppets along with the NHS section.
I thought the cauldron of fire at the end was really beautiful and was interested to hear that it was designed by the Thomas Heatherwick studios. I was in art college with Thomas in Manchester, he studied 3D Design while I studied Textiles.
His work has been hugely acclaimed and was called "the Leonardo da Vinci of our times" by his mentor and fellow designer Terence Conran. The cauldron which he codenamed Betty was lit by seven young athletes and the 204 copper "petals" rose to create one huge flame which really was a breath taking sight.
Well done Thomas!
